Notes Planning Brief for Blue Zone, Macclesfield District General Hospital

The East Cheshire NHS Trust has declared 3 hectares of land and buildings in the Blue Zone at Macclesfield District General Hospital as surplus to the Trust’s requirements. The Trust intends to dispose of the site for non-hospital uses. The site lies to the east of the main hospital building and is bounded by Cumberland Street, Prestbury Road and Victoria Road.

This Brief has been prepared by a partnership team of East Cheshire NHS Trust, Drivers Jonas, BDP, Faber Maunsell and WHR in conjunction with Macclesfield Borough Council officers. The Brief provides information on the opportunities, constraints, acceptable land uses and general development principles to be taken into account by developers in bringing forward proposals for the part refurbishment and part redevelopment of the Blue Zone. The Brief also identifies the information that will be required to accompany future applications for planning permission and Listed Building Consent.

The Planning Brief and a Hospital Masterplan was the subject of public consultation from Monday 17th September 2007 to Monday 29th October 2007 Purpose of the Brief : (a) To provide guidance on appropriate uses for the site, taking into account the need to
achieve a sustainable form of development.
(b) To secure the future of the Listed Building
(c) To provide guidance on the siting, scale and design of new buildings, taking into account
the setting of the Listed Building, protected trees and the landscape character of the site
