Bollington REVIEW OF BOLLINGTON TOWN COUNCIL
INTRODUCTION Following a request by Bollington Town Council, Macclesfield Borough Council The purpose of the review was to determine whether the number of Town Councillors, (15) were appropriate for Bollington or whether the number should be reduced to better serve the local community. The Town Council stated that after the most current elections 11 members were returned, leaving 4 vacancies to be filled by co-option. The Town Council stated that with a population of approximately 7,000, the number of Town Councillors is comparatively high. Bollington Town Council wish to obtain Quality Parish Status and they have stated that they were concerned with the number of members that they have had to fill by co-option. Therefore Bollington Town Council asked for a review of the number of Town Councillors with a view to reducing the number to 12 (4 for each ward) which they considered would better serve the local community. The consultation document enabled any interested persons or bodies to express their views on the issues that the Borough Council considered when determining the electoral arrangements. It was available to as wide as possible a range of individuals and organisations having interests in the parished areas. It was circulated direct to: • the parish councils themselves, as well as being made available to the general public through a public notice appearing in Bollington Town Hall and appearing here, on the Council’s website www.macclesfield.gov.uk. |
