Twinning
Although not an official town twinning, The Borough of Macclesfield has long been associated with the coastal town of Eckernforde in West Germany. Eckernforde is a spa town situated on the Baltic Coast close to the cities of Kiel and Flensburg in the Schleswig Holstein regions. Its’ links with Macclesfield go back to 1947, many local organisations and groups continue to exchange visits and maintain long established friendships. There have been numerous civic visits between the two areas and more are planned for the future.
However, as the people of the Borough are such friendly and welcoming folk it is hardly surprising that in addition to this borough wide twinning with Eckernforde there are numerous other twinning links, both formal and informal, between individual towns and villages. For example Knutsford and Montmorency, France and Bollington and Thurles, Southern Ireland. Please contact the local town council if you would like more information about these two twinning friendships or click here for the Knutsford Town Twinning association information.
