Landscape Services
With its attractive high quality rural landscape and characterful settlements set in the context of a thriving economy, the Borough experiences considerable development pressure on its land. The landscape design input to the planning process therefore plays an important role, along with clear policies and standards to guide development. The Planning service’s Landscape Architects, based in the Environmental Services Unit, work with Planning Officers to ensure that the Borough’s rural and urban landscapes are protected, enhanced and developed appropriately by providing landscape design and advice for a range of activities.
Landscape services include:
- Supplying professional landscape design advice, development briefs, comments and input to the development control process.
- Contributing, as appropriate to Borough-wide policies and initiatives, such as the Local Plan.
- Preparing borough-wide landscape evaluations and setting up landscape character assessments.
- Preparing Landscape Design Guides as Supplementary Planning Guidance and guidelines associated with landscape legislation.
- Carrying out landscape assessments in connection with the review of designated areas, such as Conservation Areas and Areas of Special County Value for Landscape.
- Providing general landscape design and management advice to parish councils, community, environmental and interest groups.
- Delivering landscape architectural services for physical landscape improvements, from inception to completion for projects instigated by the Borough, and to assist landowners in the Landscape Conservation Programme.
- Contributing to the environmental aspects of Section 106 Agreements.
